Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) and CHOP Day Surgery Discharge Criteria

Vital Signs
  • Stable temperature
  • HR, BP within normal limits or at baseline
Consciousness Awake or back to baseline
Airway/Respiration
  • Patent airway with protective reflexes
  • Adequate ventilation, normal RR
    • No evidence of respiratory distress, baseline respiratory status
Bleeding No excessive surgical drainage or bleeding
Movement Moving all extremities, back to baseline
PO
  • Adequately hydrated
  • No more than 2 emetic episodes
  • and
  • No emesis within 30 mins of discharge
Pain Pain managed
Recovery Score 6
Discharge
  • Parent/legal guardian/responsible adult is present to escort
  • Include
    • Appropriate prescriptions
    • Discharge instructions
    • Hospital and personnel phone numbers
