Serum Tryptase
Serum Tryptase
- Found in both mast cells and basophils, but in much higher concentration in mast cells
- Elevated tryptase level is a specific marker for mast cell deactivation
Measuring Serum Tryptase
- Draw level within 3 hours of onset of symptoms
- Do NOT send tryptase for food -induced anaphylaxis
- Send tryptase for all other potential triggers, and especially if there is no known trigger
